The Espro Press takes the concept of a French press and eliminates one of the biggest deterring factors – the thick, murky grit that is inevitably left behind.

Espro Press Review | Foodal.com

For those who prefer the accentuated flavor and more pronounced qualities of pressed coffee as opposed to a standard drip brew, this particular device is worth checking out.

By using two uniquely designed micro-filters (which are currently patent pending), a substantial amount of the silt-like residue can be caught by the straining system.

The liquid is filtered twice prior to being consumed, thanks to the layered filters; both boast of being more than ten times finer than those found on most of its French counterparts.

Available in three sizes (8oz, 18oz, and 32oz), the Espro Press is ideal for brewing a single cup of coffee, or for producing enough for up to four servings.

The double-walled stainless steel thermal carafe is light enough to conveniently carry and transport, while also being durable enough that it is virtually unbreakable, thus having the potential to last a lifetime.

The double-walled stainless steel is also a contributing factor to its exceptional heat retaining qualities, but it shares that credit with the vacuum insulation.

This interesting feature allows the beverage to stay warm both while it brews and as it waits to be consumed. It also assists in maintaining a separation between the pressed grounds and the drinkable liquid, which prevents the coffee from becoming over-steeped.

This device is also perfect for creating cold brewed coffee, by adding some grounds and letting is seep overnight.

Although the Espro Press might be slightly more expensive than its competitors, it produces results that are undeniably better.

According to design engineer Chris McLean, the press was designed with the purpose of capturing and expressing the unique flavor and qualities that each individual coffee offers.

How an Espro Press works | Foodal.com

Coffee farmers and roasters work hard to produce a bean with characteristics that are distinctively its own.

This simple device allows all of these elements to be tasted and enjoyed, without being overpowered or undermined as they are with so many other brewing techniques.

Although the French press is known for its ability to retain these individual properties, the true flavor is often obscured by the muddiness that the method allows. By eliminating this factor, the real identity of the coffee can be appreciated.

The Espro Press boasts of durability, usability, and multi-functionality. It’s the perfect solution for those who enjoy the flavor and quality of French pressed coffee (or any drink), but wish to eliminate the murky residue and runaway grinds that always seem to manage to escape through normal filters.

Pros

  • Unbreakable Steel Construction – you could bend it… if you ran it over with a Humvee.
  • Almost No Sediment – Let’s beat that dead horse some more.  Really, this is a coffee press that won’t leave a load of gravel in your mouth.  Buy it – Mikey likes and owns all three.
  • Double Walled Just Like A Thermos – It’ll keep your coffee warm for an hour (the small) or two (the large).
  • Beautiful – Use as your server, just not your brewer.  Beats looking at a Mr. Coffee carafe.

Cons

  • An ounce of coffee may linger at the bottom. However, this is solvable by pouring as you plunge – or just leave the last few drops in place and empty it all into your garden.  Plants (and worms) love coffee juice and grounds.
  • Lid is single wall. The top of the device is not double walled and it does not seal well, which leaks some heat.

Comparison to Similar Products

The Clever Coffee Dripper takes a similar approach to modifiying the French press design, in order to get a cleaner cup.  As a hybrid between a press and a pour over brewer, it uses high grade paper filters instead of the double layer mesh system of the Espro.

Techniques, Tips and Tricks

Although originally marketed solely to the coffee industry, the Espro Press’s full potential is gradually being unmasked.

Thanks to user experimentation, the device is famous for being a useful tool in the production of a variety of exceptional beverages.

It is now being marketed for drinks other than coffee, including loose-leaf teas, various alcoholic beverages, and even tonic water.

  1. All these coffee-related articles lately have made me wonder if the reason I don’t care for the beverage is because I’ve only ever had standard brews, and maybe I’d prefer another method. I tend to like coffee-flavored things, but not the drink itself. I’m thinking something like this would be a fantastic gift for my family – that way, I could have access to it and figure out if it’s worth investing in one for myself.

  2. I recently switched from a coffee brewer to a french press. I love the way it tastes from the press but one thing I don’t like is that I can’t just keep any unpoured coffee in the press itself without it continuing to “brew” or “steep” I like the idea that the Espro eliminates that problem and it looks really sleek too. I’m not ready to buy a new model just yet, but when it’s time I will definitely consider investing in this one!

  3. I’ve been using a french press for years, off and on, and have had several different versions. Ever since I first saw the Espro, I’ve love the sleekness of the design, and overall beauty of it. I know the smallest wouldn’t suffice for my needs, so when I am able, I’d like to purchase either the medium or large unit, because I like that it will keep my coffee hot enough for a good second cup, while preventing the brew from becoming bitter.

  4. I hate when coffee gets too cold before I get a chance to drink it. Then I end up using the microwave to reheat it. I like how this product is made a bit like a thermos.

  5. Ah, the grit that a French press leaves behind! It is the bane of my life. I’m a caffeine addict so I definitely plan to invest in one of these Espro devices. They seem super efficient and the sleek shiny exterior is an added bonus.

  6. This die vice looks pretty interesting! The price is pretty stiff but I guess it’s worth it since the product is really well-made and does a quality job. I don’t really like coffee, but I’m inclined to give it a try again if this makes it taste different.

  7. I love a nice cup of coffee, but this looks a little pricey. Then again, I’ve gone through like at least 4 french presses ever since I started to use them, so maybe the price is worth it. I like the idea of it being metal since I usually get glass ones and someone always drops it. I wonder if the metal affects the taste.

  8. This seems like a really great invention to have for coffee lovers. For me that isn’t beverage my beverage of choice, but it’s probably because I haven’t really tasted anything other than made at home or with plenty of added coverings at chain cafes. It all tastes the same to me and just doesn’t appeal. Maybe I should try a method like this and see if I get different results?

  9. Finally someone ready my mind. I stop using the french press for this exact reason. I bought around 3 or 4 and just refused to keep replacing them because of the glass cracking. I will be purchasing this one very soon and hopefully will get at least a full year of use out of it. Thank you so much for the information.

  10. I bought this french press at great expense because I love my coffee and I loved the beautiful look of it and the idea behind it. I was very disappointed because I find it almost impossible to push down and so does my husband who is VERY strong. My shoulder hurts for hours after making my coffee! I bought it quite awhile ago and after a few frustrating days I put it at the top of my cupboard and bought a cheapie at the grocery store. The latter just broke and I got my espro down and gave it another try – same old thing – impossible to push down. I’m on my way out to buy another cheapie – very distressing as there is not a more beautiful one around.
