If you’re like me and you really enjoy cooking, then you know how important it is to be able to find that bottle of seasoning at just the right time when you need it in the kitchen.
Maybe you’ve been looking for a way to keep your spices in order for a while. If so, then you’re really going to enjoy this article!
I’ve tried so many different options myself…
I’ve tried organizing the boxes and jars in my cabinet, using magnets to stick them on my fridge, a stand-up counter option, and dumping them all in a drawer and giving up entirely for a few months.
Heck, I even had a friend build something for me at one point!
It seems like it wouldn’t be a big deal to just toss them in a cabinet or drawer, but many of my recipes have fallen flat due to my failure to find the garlic powder, warming spice blend, or whole nutmeg that I swore I bought not too long ago!
As you’ll see below, I have reviewed an amazing lineup of different equipment to keep all of your dried herbs and spices in order.
They are organized in the most popular storage styles: you can choose a mounted model that is the savior of saving space, one that can be demurely tucked away in your cabinet or drawer, or one you can keep directly on your countertop for easy accessibility.
With these options, I hope you’ll find one that works best for you and your spices.
The Best Spice Racks
Cabinet or Drawer
Want to keep your bottles hidden out of plain sight, yet still pristinely organized? No one has to see your outrageously growing – if not obsessive – collection of herbs and spices when you can discreetly hide them in one of your cabinets or drawers!
You’re sure to find an option you like among these three choices.
If you are bound and determined to use a dedicated drawer for your spice storage, the Lynk Professional Expandable Spice Drawer Organizer will help you with this serious – and achievable – goal!
Lynk Professional Expandable Spice Drawer Organizer, available on Amazon
The organizer arrives in two separate pieces. You simply need to slide one piece over the other. The assembled unit can then be installed inside your kitchen drawer, and the width can be adjusted for just the right fit by sliding the expandable shelves in or out.
For its full capacity range, it can contract to fit a drawer as narrow as 13.25 inches, and expand to fit a drawer as wide as 26.5 inches.
The depth is not adjustable, and remains static at 16.5 inches.
There are 4 shelves total, each one angled with a depth of 1.5 inches. The bottom three shelves are 4.5 inches tall, to hold larger jars. The top shelf is 2.13 inches tall – perfect for your smaller containers, though it can still comfortably fit some of the taller containers with no risk of them toppling over, if enough clearance is available.
Jars are not included with this purchase. It will fit up to 64 standard-sized spice jars and bottles.
The organizer weighs 5 pounds, and is made from heavy gauge steel with a silver metallic epoxy finish – unlike wood or plastic, there will be no risk of warping, staining, or cracking. And it’s easy to wipe clean!
Your drawer has never looked this good!
This organizer comes with a 90-day warranty from the date of purchase that covers any defects in manufacturing and workmanship. You can contact customer service regarding any warranty questions.

The Spicy Shelf Deluxe Stackable Cabinet Organizer is certainly not the fanciest of organizers, but it does the job, and does it well. It’s affordable, customizable, and just what you need to get your bottles in order in your cabinet.
Spicy Shelf Deluxe Stackable Cabinet Organizer, available on Amazon
At first glance, with all of the pieces that come included, you might feel a bit overwhelmed. But it’s actually simple to put together once you know the basics of the assembly process – no tools required.
This product is made of durable plastic, with a rubber lining on each shelf for a non-slip surface to prevent the bottles from moving. And this rack is tucked inside your cabinet, so you don’t have to worry about it being out in the open.
Your purchase includes two stackable shelves. If you only have enough spices to fill one shelf, you can store and install the second shelf later if your collection grows, or share with a fellow cooking enthusiast in need of a storage upgrade.
Each shelf can be adjusted within the range of 7 3/8 inches to 16 1/3 inches wide. The depth of each shelf is 10 3/8 inches.
You can choose to assemble the two shelves on top of each other or next to each other, with a total width of 32 3/4 inches.
When fully assembled with both shelves, the organizer can hold up to 40 pounds, and up to 64 standard-size spice jars.
You can choose between tall or short legs to adjust the height of the shelves to fit standard spice containers.
The U-shaped design allows you to store a large number of spices, while being able to see all of their labels. And you can avoid having to shift items around to get to the ones in the far back of your cabinet.
You can also place jars on the bottom below the first shelf in the same U-shaped alignment to create a third base level, with the jars situated directly on the shelf of your cabinet.
One of the most important things I want to stress is that you need to be willing to experiment with this product. Follow the directions to review all the different possible formations, which will save you from having to spend any time reassembling.
You will appreciate how customizable it is to fit in your cabinets – depending on your setup, you can use all of the expansion pieces if you have a lot of products you want to store, or set up a smaller configuration if you only have a few bottles or jars.
The pieces slide apart and snap into each other, but you will need to use a little force to unsnap them.
My best advice is to measure your cabinet first. If for some reason they don’t fit your cabinet the way you’d like, you can simply take it apart and try a different combination.
These are durable, but use caution when taking them apart, as they are made of plastic.
If you’re looking for something fancy or decorative to display, then this might not be the right product for you. I suggest you check out some of the other models on this list.

The YouCopia SpiceStack Adjustable Organizer can easily fit inside a cabinet, saving counter and drawer space.
YouCopia SpiceStack Adjustable Organizer, available on Amazon
If you’re looking for a product that can hold a smaller collection of both large and small seasoning receptacles to keep your cabinet organized, this may be the best option for you.
This adjustable, compact vessel is helpful to keep your core collection of small and large jars inside your cabinet.
The organizer is made of white plastic and weighs a total of 2.8 pounds. It is 8.3 inches in height, 10.5 inches in width, and 11 inches in depth.
It features 3 drop-down, drawer-style shelves. With this design, this organizer goes a step beyond a simple pull-out drawer. Once you pull out the drawer, you can then drop the drawer down vertically to more easily view and access stored items in the back row.
Each shelf has a small wall at the end, so your jars won’t fall off of the shelf when you pull it out and drop it down.
Each shelf includes an adjustable wall divider. With this divider, you are able to store two rows of spices per shelf at customized heights to fit your jars.
Jars are not included with this purchase. It can hold 24 standard-size round or square spice jars, and can hold even more if you have smaller jar or bottle sizes.
The seasonings are stored horizontally inside drawers – the positioning will protect them from direct light and heat.
A set of 104 removable labels, 52 preprinted and 52 blank, are included with your purchase. These are easy to remove again after they’ve been stuck on, so they won’t mar your jars.
This organizer arrives fully assembled, and you won’t have to worry about any mounting or installation – keep those tools far away!
Load it up with your bottles and simply place it in your cabinet, or on the counter if you have the space.
You may want to attach some of the labels to the drawers, but other than that, it’s ready to use as is.
You can return your YouCopia product if you are not fully satisfied within 60 days of receipt – contact the company to receive a return authorization number and prepaid shipping label. The company does not accept exchanges, but will give you a full refund.

For the most ease and accessibility, when you want to have all of your seasonings at your fingertips, choose a model that you can display on the countertop close to your usual prep or cooking area.
The narrow profile and minimalist design of the 60-jar spice rack from AllSpice will help you to maximize your countertop workspace while keeping all of your spices beautifully organized and easily accessible.
AllSpice 60-jar Spice Rack, natural bamboo, available on Amazon
The rack is made from bamboo. Other than the natural bamboo option, you can also purchase it in four different finishes: cherry stain, walnut stain, matte black, or matte white.
Multiple accessories are included with your purchase to complete the set. There are 60 4-ounce empty glass jars and 60 black plastic lids, as well as 90 plastic shaker tops in three different designs: 30 spoon scraper tops, 30 small hole shakers, and 30 large hole shakers.
The 4-ounce jars are 4.25 inches in height.
Your purchase also comes with 525 preprinted and water-resistant labels. This includes 35 blank labels, as well as a fine-tip white paint pen.
A set of 4 1/4-inch-thick circular foam pads are also included to attach to each of the four corners on the bottom of the frame base. These will elevate the frame slightly from the countertop, protecting it from potential scratches and water damage.
The frame has 6 rows and 10 columns of individual circular cubbies for the jars to sit inside with the lids facing out, which allows you to see all of the seasonings easily.
AllSpice 60-Jar Spice Rack, black matte, available on Amazon
This storage feature also protects the seasonings from direct light and heat, which will help to prolong the shelf life of your seasonings.
The 60-jar rack measures 15.9 inches in height including the foam feet, 24.75 inches in width, and 4.75 inches in depth.
It weighs a whopping 32 pounds with the jars included – stability will not be an issue here!
You also shouldn’t be worried about space with this 60-jar model. Because it only utilizes 4.75 inches of counter space in depth, it’s surprisingly narrow, leaving you with enough area to work and prep.
This is designed as a standalone unit, meaning you can set it on your counter. You can position it either vertically or horizontally, depending on where you choose to place it.
It does require a minimum clearance of 16 inches from your countertop to the bottom of your wall cabinet – which is no problem for most kitchens, as the standard distance between the two is 18 inches.
That being said, if you want to position this vertically, you might be more limited in where you can place it.
Is this 60-jar size too overwhelming for your kitchen space and culinary requirements? AllSpice sells a smaller 30-jar rack, which is also available in the same finishes.
AllSpice 30-Jar Spice Rack, walnut stain, available on Amazon
The 30-jar frame weighs 16 pounds with the jars included and is 13.75 inches high, 15.63 inches wide, and 4.75 inches deep. With these measurements, it’s possible to position this vertically underneath all standard kitchen cabinets.
It includes 30 40-oz glass jars and black lids, and 45 shaker tops – 15 spoon scraper tops, 15 small hole shakers, 15 large hole shakers. You’ll also receive a set of 525 labels and a fine-tipped white paint pen.
The frame’s setup is a relieving breeze, as it is delivered already assembled. You simply have to attach the four feet to the base of the frame.
And once you wash and dry the jars, label them, fill them with seasonings, and attach your preferred shakers to the rim before placing the lids on top, you’re all set.
The rack is intended to be placed on a countertop. If you would rather mount it to the wall, the manufacturer highly suggests hiring a professional to mount it safely and properly with the correct materials, due to the heavy weight of the frame.
If you are dissatisfied with this rack for any reason, you can return it within 30 days of your purchase for a full refund. Except in cases of a manufacturing defect, you will be responsible for return shipping.
If you have a lot of seasonings or plan to expand your collection, you can feel confident this gorgeous product will be able to house all of your jars in one convenient location.

This metal wall plate from Gneiss Spice is one of the most visually stunning options on the list, and it puts you in charge as artistic director of arranging the spice jars.
Gneiss Metal Wall Plate for Magnetic Jars, 10-by-12 inches, available on Amazon
This product is a simple flat plate of 430-grade steel with a brushed stainless steel finish. It is intended to be hung on a wall or door.
The metal plate is currently available on Amazon in various sizes:
The 6-by-8-inch size fits 13 small or 6 large jars. The 10-by-12-inch size fits 28 small or 16 large jars. The 12-by-15-inch size and the 20-by-10-inch size both fit 48 small or 24 large jars.
The number of small and large jars listed above are the measurements provided by Gneiss Spice, using their brand of jars that you must purchase separately.
While this wall plate is compatible with all magnetic products, Gneiss Spice makes glass jars with magnetic lids specifically designed for use with this plate.
And I seriously suggest buying them – their hexagonal shape makes for a beautiful presentation when arranged on the plate!
The glass jars from Gneiss Spice are made with industrial-grade clear glass with airtight magnetic silver-finished lids.
Gneiss Spice Small Glass Jars, 12 count, available on Amazon
You can buy an empty set of 12 or an empty set of 24 small jars on Amazon. The small jars are 1.75 inches wide and 2 inches tall, and can fit just shy of 1/4 cup.
You can also purchase an empty set of 12 or an empty set of 24 large jars on Amazon. The large jars are 2.5 inches wide and 2.5 inches tall, and can fit a heaping 1/2 cup.
You can also purchase a mixed set of 6 small and 6 large empty jars on Amazon.
If you prefer to have your jars prefilled, you can purchase a 12-count large or small set filled with the following certified organic spices: basil, chili flakes, cinnamon, ground cumin, garlic, ginger, onion, oregano, paprika, rosemary, thyme, and turmeric.
All jar sets include a set of 216 1-inch washable pre-labeled spice stickers with a clear background and black text that you can place on the glass bottoms. You can also place them on the lids, which won’t impede the magnet’s effectiveness.
Gneiss Spice Prefilled Small Glass Jars, 12 count, available on Amazon
The jars can also securely stick to the magnetic portion of your refrigerator.
Even though the front of the plate is magnetic, the backing of the plate is not, so you will need to hang this on your wall or door by other means.
The plate is designed with pre-drilled 0.188-inch holes in all four corners that fit standard size #6 screws. The hardware is not included.
Now, if you’re worried about putting holes in your wall, Gneiss Spice clearly states in the FAQ section of their website that you can mount the plate using heavy-duty, double-sided adhesive tape.
I suggest placing one piece of adhesive tape on each corner of the plate as a precautionary measure.
Once secured, magnetic jars holding your spices can then be attached to the plate in any artful design, depending on your preferred placement layout.
This is a great option for those who want to hang up their seasonings on a wall, rather than placing them in a cabinet or on the counter.
You will love how it frees up kitchen space, especially if you cook and bake frequently and already have what little precious space there is on the counter or in the cupboard filled – if not bursting – with other ingredients, utensils, and appliances.
This product is pretty straightforward to assemble and use. And as long as you make sure the lids to the jars are screwed on tightly and that they’re fully mounted and perpendicular to the wall plate – not hanging slightly off the side – you’ll really enjoy this product.
The only downside is the cost – when purchasing the plate and jars together, it could easily add up, especially if you buy the larger plate or larger jar sizes.
But the freedom of choosing how you want to arrange the jars is where this product really shines.
The plate itself is your blank canvas to artfully display your spices in any design you dream of, from sleek and organized rows in the same jar size to fun, wavy patterns in different jar sizes.
If for some reason you aren’t satisfied with your purchase, or if you’re having issues, the company will issue a prepaid return label to send the item back for a refund. Contact the company’s customer service department to discuss their return or exchange policy.

This was actually really useful, since I’ve been thinking about a new spice rack for a while. I have something similar to the McCormick mounted on my kitchen wall already, but I did a bit of customising to mine. Two small screws, a hook & eye latch, some glue, and a sheet of thin perspex made a light-weight door. It isn’t very sturdy, but it makes me feel better about things not falling out if it is knocked. The only problem I have is that, as you said it just doesn’t hold very much. I’ve already got an overflow of spare spices in the cupboards, which puts me back to square one with finding things.
The Allspice model looks like exactly what I need, and I’ll have to look that up! It looks as though it also keeps light away from the spices to preserve the taste, which might make it worth the extra cost. How stable is it free-standing or, given the weight, does it need a restraining hook in the wall to keep it steady?
I think that the whole organization and ordering aspect of the spice rack is something that goes under-appreciated a lot of the time, and it really does make a huge difference. It is even comes down to me using more spices when they are easier to get to, which is probably saying something about me but it matters. Thanks for the tips, and I know that it is about that time when I need to go through and do some evaluation on the spices that I have.
I absolutely agree. I find when things are more organized, I use more spices too and that leads to me experimenting a lot more too.
Yes! This is what we tell all our customers, too. I’ve become such a better cook over the years because of this.
Wow! This entry must have taken a while to put together. I really appreciate the thought that was put into it. My family currently uses a MacGyverish setup that my dad built. It does its job of course, but isn’t too aesthetically pleasing. I’m an absolute spice fiend so I am always buying more, I might just need to expand to one of these bigger offerings!
This is a great and informative article. Having moved to a smaller home & kitchen, space is at a real premium. I now currently have my spices in boxes, a turnstile rack in my cupboard and some in my pantry. I love these ideas for organization and having everything at one location. Thanks for the ideas, tips and products. Great post!
There are some really great ideas in this article. 🙂 I love the wooden spice racks the best, I think. Everything can be easily found and they look neat. Having a really tiny apartment kitchen however, I don’t have a lot of room to organize my spices. I just usually sit them in a corner of the countertop or inside a cupboard. I am rather disorganized with my containers but it doesn’t seem to make a lot of difference. I still find everything I need without much trouble.
Love all of the flavoring suggestions and the example recipes. I like to make pasta salad as a healthy vegetarian main dish. Sometimes instead of pasta I’ll use quinoa to up the protein content and make it a more filling meal. Technically not “pasta” salad but it’s in same spirit.
Time for me to get organized. I have multiples of stuff I don’t use much and I always seem to be missing what I need. Part of it is other people in my home buying extra and throwing out stuff we need though.
I actually have purchased the McCormick Gourmet Spice Rack a while ago. It is a real life-saver for me. I used to break the ‘spice-bottles’ because they were simply positioned above a small shelf and sometimes when I tried to reach for the spice I wanted, I accidentally pushed the close to that one, it fell and broke. Had to do quite a cleaning later..
If there is anything I can vouch for, it is this simple shelving unit.
OK I am sending this article to my Dad! He buys spices in bulk and has them all in these little baggies from the store, I can never tell what is what because they aren’t labelled. It makes me crazy when I come cook for him! He’s got a nice shelf for his spices but since none of them are in jars, it’s impossible to tell what they are.
This article is just amazing. Thanks for all the information and tips. Having an organised kitchen will definitely inspire me to cook more and experiment more. These spice rack ideas are just out of this world.
I’ll just have to decide which one is going to work for me in my kitchen.
I like the allspice rack because everything is easy to find because of the labels, but by far the best feature is that it naturally prevents direct light from hitting the spices, many herbs can quickly lose their flavoring when in direct light. But at the same time, it is nice to have them at hand while you are cooking, so this type of shelved solution is great.
I have one of those preset spice racks that come with about 20 different spices. While I love it for storage I find I don’t use more then half of them. While it looks nice sitting on the counter I have a whole draw of species that I use that weren’t included in the rack. My two favorite places to buy spices are trader joes and Costco. While Costco is less expensive you can only find the traditional spices. Trader joes has a lot more options.
What a great, in depth article. I was so excited to see us at the top of the list!! And, the photos are of our old jars, which we’ve since updated and added larger labels you can use on the glass bottoms of the jars or lids (I prefer the lids, because I like looking at just the spices, but from all the comments above, I can see a lot of people would rather put the labels on the glass side!)
Thanks for featuring us! I had no idea—this was a fun article to read and I’ll be linking to it from our shop. Happy Cooking! (Also, if anyone has questions about Gneiss Spice, send them our way).
Thanks for getting in touch, Beth! Glad you enjoyed the article. We’ll definitely include new photos when we post an update to our review. Happy Cooking! 🙂
You mentioned that with every type of spice rack it is important to consider assembly, capacity, and quality. That is really interesting to me since I have always needed a spice rack but have not gotten one and I had no idea there was so much thought to choosing one. This will be a great tip for me to consider when I start looking online.
I came across the best and most versatile spice rack or shelf. It is called Just A Shelf and you can find it on their website. I don’t think they are actually selling this but are looking to launch a KickStarter campaign soon. The funniest thing about this product is the video that is on their homepage. Watch it because you will certainly be laughing for a long while.
Helpful blog, I think storing spices in racks is the best idea one must use. It may look properly organized and tidy. Using a organizers may help to keep all the things in a proper manner. Thanks for sharing this blog. It’s much helpful. Keep Sharing more.. 🙂
Such a great article you had posted. I think that would help me a lot to choose the best spice rack for my home. Thanks for sharing this post. Keep posting like this. Good wishes..
I recently created my own set of magnetic spice jars to attached to the side of my fridge although I guess you could attach to a metal sheet like the one in the article. I glued Neodymium Disc magnets that a bought at AMF Magnets and their range was great because I had a bunch of different size jars so I could pick different diameters to suit the lid size. I actually followed their how to guide but used the lid instead of the bottom of the jar because I wanted to be able to easily see the spice and how much I had left. Their guide was really helpful because I didn’t know how strong I’d need the magnet to be given it was going on a vertical fridge with a smooth surface etc. Anyway, happy making!
